my story

Education

Liew Nian-Hin was born in 1967 in Malaysia, developing a deep appreciation for art and culture rooted in the rich traditions of Chinese aesthetics from an early age. He immersed himself in the study of classical Chinese painting and calligraphy, building a strong foundation that would later shape his distinctive artistic voice. In 1987, he moved to Taiwan, where he pursued his formal education at the National Taiwan Normal University, studying in the Department of Fine Arts and later the Graduate Institute of Western Painting. His education emphasized both Eastern and Western techniques, enabling him to bridge traditions with contemporary expression, and he has since settled long-term in New Taipei City. This dual influence became central to his creative identity, allowing him to develop a unique visual language that blends oil painting with the spirit and structure of calligraphy.

My Painting
Style

Liew Nian-Hin’s painting style is a harmonious fusion of Eastern philosophy and Western technique. His oil paintings are distinguished by expressive brushwork, layered color fields, and a strong sense of composition informed by traditional Chinese calligraphy. Whether portraying urban landscapes, human figures, or still lifes, Liew’s works convey emotional depth, spiritual balance, and a meditative atmosphere. His approach combines realism with abstraction, always rooted in a sincere observation of life. Through this unique blend, he creates a visual language that is both deeply personal and universally resonant.
